It is common to find test preparation and college admissions consulting offered independent of one another. However, we understand the critical importance of bringing together our college admissions counseling with our elite test preparation courses to provide for a whole that is far greater than the sum of its parts. The combined approach to the application process allows us to provide SAT & ACT preparation that corresponds seamlessly with the specific goals of each student’s college list and college planning that remains flexible to accommodate score improvements.
what we do
A Handcrafted Testing Curriculum
Designed by our founding group of Harvard-graduate curriculum developers with backgrounds as diverse as English, Philosophy, Education, and Psychology, our test prep curriculum used in our Admissions Plus program is robust and results-driven. Committed to being a leader in test preparation services, we are always evolving and improving our formula with each new development in the admissions cycles and every passing SAT and ACT exam. Our curriculum developers take every test administered domestically, and also keep a close watch on international renditions of the standardized tests to stay ahead of the curve and effectively adapt to the College Board and ACT’s newest developments.
But the truly unique element of our curriculum is its flexibility. We are not content with presenting only one way to solve a given standardized test question. Our experience has taught us that each student will have his or her own “most efficient” method or approach, and, with this insight in mind, we set out to develop a curriculum that encompasses as many ways of seeing and unraveling a question as possible. Our goal is simple: to help any student to become a strong and confident test taker, no matter his or her preferred learning style or academic background.
what we do
Private, One-to-One Teaching
Inspired by ancient Socratic methods, our classes are based on a synergistic learning method of dialogue—we want your student to “discover” their way toward an understanding of a mathematical concept, rather than to memorize a set of steps. Our job is to take the seeds of knowledge in our students, and to help them develop into robust ideas or strategies they can employ both in the classroom and when taking standardized tests.
We bring an awareness of the unique intelligences of our students and an ability to customize our teaching methods and course material to the needs of each student. With mentorship and coaching services that are built into the fabric of our learning modules, expect your student to connect with a tutor who will not only be invaluable in advancing your their academic goals, but also a confidante who can inspire and will make the experience both fun and memorable
what we do
Online, In-Person or Both
All of our services can be supplemented through the convenience of online tutoring, in addition to our classic in-person experience. Employing the most innovative technological tools, you will be able to access your tutor whether you are traveling with your family, or during a free period between classes. When combined with our flexible, customizable curriculum, the online tutoring and test prep experience is infinitely adaptable to the demands of our students’ schedules, as well as their strengths and weaknesses.
what we do
Early Starter Program
Working in conjunction with our standard admissions services, our Early Starter services are designed for our younger students looking to get a head start building the skills and knowledge to excel in their future standardized testing. Our Early Starter students are guided through the early stage tiers of the SAT and ACT testing suites (PSAT 8/9, PSAT 10, PreACT 8/9, and PreACT 10) so that they are ready to hit their stride as they move into regular SAT and ACT testing. Additionally, we utilize evaluative class subject tutoring to target specific opportunity areas for growth in a student’s math and verbal skills that will help shore up the academic foundations necessary for success in their future standardized testing. ISEE, SSAT or HSPT test preparation are also able to be integrated into a student’s Early Starter program where needed.
Turning the Spotlight on RESULTS
A test score is so much more than just a number. For a young student, their score will act as the primary representation of their intellectual ability before the admissions committees. Score increases, in this light, are the keys that can unlock the doors to a student’s colleges of best fit—where their unique qualities and attributes will be best celebrated and nourished and where they can grow into young adults of distinction and promise.
At Ivy Tutors, elite test preparation is at the heart of what we do. We are honored to provide the lessons and guidance needed to help our students maximize their test performances and ultimately gain the winning edge in their admissions outcomes.

FAQ
Quisque dui leo, ornare id, imperdiet egestas diam.
Starting early is always the best and safest policy. Core math and verbal skills are of course necessary for successful testing. Yet, there are specific test-taking skills and strategies that can only be developed through repeated exposure and prep. With ISEE and SSAT testing suites providing offerings for students as young as the first grade, we advise all parents to expose their children to the world of standardized testing— even if just to take a test once a year—as early as possible.
When is the ideal time to start with test prep?
Do you publish statistics on your average student score increases? How big of a score increase can my student achieve?
Each of our students pursues his or her own personalized set of scoring goals that reflect their unique academic and testing profile, and admittance goals. For instance, a student further along on their testing path, seeking admittance to a top-tier institution, will pursue progressively smaller marginal score gains in their approach of perfection; while a student, just beginning on their testing path, will often find themselves realizing their largest gross-numerical score gains toward the beginning of their test preparation experience. We bring our expertise to bear in order to construct testing milestones and pathways geared toward helping our students maximize their score potentials and achieve their highest admissions aspirations.
SAT vs. ACT. Which test is best for me?
The decision between tests can be more impactful than many families realize, and proper evaluation goes deeper than running a student through simple practice tests. Though the SAT and ACT have converged greatly, in terms of their respective formats, they remain highly distinct in terms of their respective contents. For families desiring a full evaluation of their student’s ideal SAT vs. ACT testing path, we conduct a thorough analysis of a student’s relative strengths across a variety of reading styles that appear on both tests, along with their grammar and vocabulary proficiencies, their math skills, and their science and writing proclivities for the optionality offered by the ACT.
Online vs. In-person learning. Which is more effective?
With all tests making the transition to digital formats, online learning modalities have become central components of our test preparation programmes. Further, the utility and convenience of online learning allows us to fit our preparation programmes in seamlessly with the schedules of our students and to be increasingly flexible and accomodating. Concurrently, we believe, more than ever, that in-person interaction and learning affords an irreplacable degree of dimensionality to the test preparation experience, and we have found it highly valuable to, at the very least, punctuate online learning with a basic meet and greet or periodic in-person session.
What is the role of diagnostics in my child’s test preparation experience?
Diagnostics are central to the process of setting initial testing goals and admissions trajectories. And, as a student progresses along their test preparation pathway, diagnostics enable us to ensure milestones are met, and to remain amenable to change. Outside of the practice tests that characterize the intake process and milestone checks, our Directors and tutors are constantly utilizing lesson-by-lesson feedback analysis to guide our students toward their highest testing outcomes.
